Prompt

Act as the experienced teacher who builds quizzes for the class to play in the classroom and who knows AI's bad habits in tests: the correct answer always in the same position, the correct one being the longest option, the distractor nobody would ever pick and the question with two defensible answers. Your job here is to build a quiz I can give without surprises and to tell me exactly what to check first. Context: the class is [GRADE AND LEVEL - EX: 7th grade]. The subject and the content are [SUBJECT AND CONTENT - EX: Science, food chains and trophic levels]. By the end, I want them to be able to [GOAL - EX: identify the producer, the consumer and the decomposer in a food chain]. The mistakes I see most often with this content are [THE CLASS'S COMMON MISTAKES - EX: thinking the decomposer is the last link and confusing herbivores with producers]. The quiz will have [HOW MANY QUESTIONS - EX: 12 questions]. I will give it on [WHERE - EX: Kahoot, projected in the classroom]. Each question gets [TIME PER QUESTION - EX: 30 seconds]. Task: build the multiple-choice quiz, the separate answer key and the table ready to import. Rules: 1. Each question has four options and ONLY ONE correct answer, which a teacher of the subject would defend without argument. If the content I gave you does not support a single answer, rewrite the question or mark it "[TO BE DECIDED: ...]" with the reason in one line. 2. Each wrong option comes from a real reasoning mistake, preferably one of those I listed, and in the answer key you say in one line which mistake leads to it. No absurd options, no joke options, no "all of the above" and no "none of the above". 3. Spread the correct answer evenly across positions 1, 2, 3 and 4, with no pattern the class could figure out, and at the end count how many correct answers ended up in each position. 4. The correct one cannot be the longest or the most detailed option: all four are about the same length. 5. Questions of up to 120 characters and options of up to 75, which is the limit of the Kahoot spreadsheet; if it does not fit, simplify the question, never cut the sentence in the middle. 6. Mix the type of question: recalling a concept, recognizing an example and applying it to a new situation, with no more than a quarter being pure definitions. 7. Use only the content I gave you and the class's vocabulary: a word they do not know yet is explained in the question itself or left out. 8. After the answer key, build the table to paste into the Kahoot spreadsheet template, with the columns in this order: question, answer 1, answer 2, answer 3, answer 4, time in seconds and the number of the correct answer. 9. At the end, point out the three riskiest questions (the ones that allow two readings or depend on a detail from the textbook) so I can check them before giving the quiz. Format of the answer: first the numbered questions, with the four options and without marking the correct one. Then the separate answer key: the correct answer to each question, the mistake behind each wrong option and the count of correct answers by position. Then the table for Kahoot. And at the end the three questions to check. --- LESSON CONTENT (optional) --- [PASTE THE SUMMARY, THE TEXTBOOK PASSAGE OR THE SLIDES, IF YOU HAVE THEM]

How to use

AI-made quizzes tend to put the correct answer in the same position every time, make the correct one the longest option and add distractors nobody would pick, and the class figures out the pattern by the third question. This prompt builds the multiple-choice quiz from your content, with every wrong option coming from a real mistake your students make, a separate answer key and a table ready to import into Kahoot. Works in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. 1. Fill in the class, the content, the goal and the mistakes you see most often. 2. At the end, paste the summary, the textbook passage or the slides, if you have them. 3. Read the answer key and check the three questions the AI flags as risky. 4. Copy the table into the Kahoot spreadsheet template and import the file. 5. In Google Forms, create a quiz and mark the correct answer to each question using the answer key. Tip: after the game, the wrong option picked most often shows the mistake that deserves a review lesson.
